Kokoleka Easter Bunny Bites
We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Easter long weekend than indulging in decadent chocolate, both inside and out of course. That’s right, chocolate has a place in our skincare routine! Our Kokoleka Mask (the Hawaiian word for chocolate) is a detoxifying superfood ‘dessert-mask’ that was carefully formulated to purify and revitalize your skin cells. Once activated with water, Kokoleka will feed your skin the most potent and exquisite blend of nutrients at a very fast rate. It’s powerful team of ingredients like cacao powder, organic acai fruit, and oatmeal have inspired us to make something beneficial for your skin but sweet enough to eat. Here’s a few reasons why your skin will love these cute little bites:
Cacao powder is full of vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Omega fatty acids and magnesium. When used topically it will help to increase blood flow and promote healing at a cellular level. Raw cacao is a rich source of antioxidants (near four times the antioxidant content of regular dark chocolate), which helps to protect the skin from free radical damage. It helps to balance skin hydration levels and smooth skin texture when added into your diet. The health benefits of cacao are endless, it evens helps to promote a more positive and optimistic mood. We’re big fans.
Acai fruit is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, B, C and E. These skin-loving vitamins are known for reviving the skin and promoting a radiant complexion. These beautiful berries are also anti-inflammatory and great for helping to reduce pigmentation.
Oatmeal has a soothing effect on the skin. Oats contains water binding polysaccharides that will hold moisture against the skin acting as an emollient, helping to soften and heal the skin. They are highly beneficial when enjoyed internally as well. Oats are high in iron, manganese, calcium, Vitamins B and E, and silicon. Silicon is crucial for healthy skin and helps maintain collagen levels. Try adding a spoonful to your smoothies for extra fibre.
Kokoleka Easter Bunny Bites
(Recipe adapted from Grandmother’s Figs)
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup hemp hearts
1/2 cup almond butter
1 small papaya
15 organic medjool dates
2 tbsp bee pollen (optional)
1 tbsp acai powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
raw cacao powder
raw shredded coconut
1. Add oats, 1/2 cup hemp hearts, and bee pollen to a food processor or high speed blender and blend until you reach a flour like consistency. Transfer the ‘flour’ into a bowl and set aside.
2. Blend the papaya, almond butter, dates, acai, and cinnamon until completely smooth.
3. Transfer the wet mixture to the ‘flour’ mixture and hand mix together with the remaining 1/2 cup hemp hearts until evenly combined. Let this set in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
4. Once the mixture is chilled, scoop into bite sized portions and roll into cylinders with your palms. The mixture can get a little sticky, try rubbing a drop of coconut oil onto your hands to prevent them from sticking. Coat the balls in raw cacao powder or shredded coconut and store in the fridge! [Makes approximately 16 Easter Bunny Bites.]
We suggest making your Easter Bunny Bites and then indulging in a delicious Kokoleka ritual. Pour 1-2 teaspoons of Kokoleka into your mask bowl.
