Mermaid Munchies & Mermaid Mask ~ Superfood for the skin and soul!

Mermaid Munchies | St. Patrick’s Day

In spirit of St. Patrick’s Day this week we’ve created some delicious green mermaid food that’s great for snacking and as always, beneficial for the skin. We’re pulling nutrient rich ingredients like spirulina, chlorella, and coriander from our luscious emerald-green Mermaid Mask to put together some highly beneficial snack foods that even your mer-kids and mer-man will love.

The organic Hawaiian spirulina used in our mermaid mask is a nutrient dense super-food, full of proteins and amino acids. It contains most all known antioxidants and helps with premature aging, acne, redness, uneven skin tone and dryness when used topically. This green powerhouse can also be consumed and easily added to snacks, smoothies, and other dishes. Spirulina will add extra protein and minerals to your meal. Sea vegetables like spirulina are very potent, a small dose is still beneficial and sure to leave you glowing.

Spirulina Popcorn

3 tbsp coconut oil
1/3 cup popcorn kernels
1 tsp spirulina
himalayan sea salt & extra coconut oil to taste

You can simply sprinkle the spirulina powder onto your already made popcorn or pop your own! Heat the coconut oil in a large saucepan on the stove at medium to high heat. Add two kernels and wait until they pop, then add the rest of the kernels and give the pot a shake to make sure each kernel is coated in the oil. Cover the pan and continue to gently shake, allowing steam to escape. Remove the pot from the stove when the popping slows or stops and pour your popped kernels into a large bowl! Sprinkle with the spirulina powder, sea salt, and extra coconut oil as you desire.

The organic premium chlorella we use is perhaps the world's best known superfood due to its well-balanced ratios of proteins, nutrients, vitamins and minerals. This green beauty has high levels of skin loving vitamins A and C, and will deeply cleanse and renew the skin with each use. Chlorella is also highly beneficial when used internally as it has high concentrations of B-complex vitamins and iron. The vibrant green colour of chlorella comes from chlorophyll which helps feed the good bacteria in the gut as well as detoxifies metals and originates the blood.

Coriander is used for an endless list of health benefits around the world. It’s anti inflammatory, detoxifying, soothing, and cooling properties help to treat eczema, regulate blood pressure, and stimulate digestion. Coriander is high in Vitamin K, Vitamin A, fibre, and manganese. We used both fresh cilantro and dried coriander seeds in our superfood guacamole recipe.
